"one hour photo" director mark romanek looks for films with
the right combination of "daring and sincerity" when he's at
the video store. unfortunately, many of his faves are still not available,
most regrettably the "bill douglas trilogy," a trio of black-and-white
films inspired by the writer-director's hard life growing up in a scottish
mining village. "it's such a beautiful film," says romanek,
whose music-video work has just been released on dvd, courtesy of palm
pictures. "it's filmmaking that i call lall killer, no filler,' meaning
every image, every single scene is stunning."
